Are you a determined, hard working and loyal individual?

*All sessions for 2013-2014 auditions will take place in the McCarthy Gym on the St. Paul South Campus. Click HERE for campus map.
*Please arrive on time (early if possible) and in appropriate dance attire. Hair must be pulled away from face and no jewelry, please.
*Team members are required to re-audition every season and there is no pre-determined number of team members to be chosen each year.
*Team members must be registered full-time students at UST for both the fall and spring semesters of the season and carry a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
*Auditions will only take place in the spring. There are NO fall auditions.
*There will be NO videotape option this year. All candidates must attend on-campus auditions to be considered.
*Incoming students must be accepted as full-time students for the fall semester at UST, or have an active application submitted to the admissions department by the first date of auditions. All candidate names are screened through the Admissions Department, so failure to meet this requirement will result in resignation from auditions.
*Once selected for the 2013-2014 UST Dance Team, it is expected that dancers who accept their position on the team are also committing to attend the University of St. Thomas as a full time student for the Fall 2013 semester.
*All sessions are closed to the public.
All candidates are expected to attend the auditions in their entirety and will be required to perform a short jazz routine and a short hip hop routine learned at the sessions. There will also be required technical elements and/or combinations, as well as an individual solo. Finalists will participate in a brief individual interview with the coaches prior to the final audition.
In order for us to best evaluate dancers overall body control and alignment, candidates are expected to wear TWO-PIECE dance apparel with an open midriff at all sessions. (may bring layers & sneakers for hip hop portion- i.e.: sweats, tank top, t-shirt, etc.). Finalists will be required to wear a black sports bra and black booty shorts for the final audition (Sunday).
The 2013-2014 Tommie Dancers will be announced on SUNDAY, APRIL 21st. Selected team members will be required to attend a new team meeting immediately following this announcement and should plan on staying on campus until approximately 8pm that evening. The new team meeting will take place in the Tommie Room in the AARC.
It is recommended all candidates pre-register to attend auditions. Your pre-registration will help expedite the check-in process the first day of auditions. You will then receive an audition number via email prior to the start of auditions and also show you are a prepared and detail-oriented indivividual (we love those character traits!). It is easy to register- simply contact Coach Alysia Ulfers at email@example.com and include your NAME, SCHOOL, CURRENT GRADE/YEAR and EMAIL ADDRESS.
All candidates MUST bring the following to the first day of auditions:
1. Audition fee of $25 (Returning members do not need to pay the fee).
2. Individual photo – a current head shot or full body photo. Can be dance related or in street clothes (i.e.: senior portrait).
3. Dance Resume – please list your dance experience and accomplishments, as well as your full birth date and contact information where you can best be reached (phone and email).
4. Individual Solo - ONLY DANCERS CHOSEN AS FINALISTS will be required to perform a one minute solo, which will take place on the final day. This solo should be in the style in which the dancer feels most confident in presenting- it is an opportunity to show your strengths and any unique tricks, technique and/or skills. Finalists will need to have their music cued and ready on an iPod or mp3 player (no CD's).
Although it is not absolutely required to have all the skills mastered, it is important dancers have the knowledge and potential to execute the following.
* Pirouettes – triple/quad on both left and right sides
* A la seconde and fouette turns- at least two eight counts and changing spots
* Battement pirouette (aka: needle turn, leg hold turn)
* Leaps – grand jete, calypso, side, etc.
* Jumps – toe touch, firebird, etc.
* Hip Hop Tricks - head spring/head kip, front/back walkover, head stand, stalls, etc.
With all skills, candidates will be evaluated on high level of overall flexibility, extension, physical endurance, control and body awareness. Along with individually performed skills, each candidate will be required to execute three (3) across the floor combos learned at auditions.
Jazz and Hip Hop routines will be taught at the audition sessions. Each is approximately one minute in length. Candidates will be evaluated on conformity to style, attention to detail, ability to quickly learn material, performance, execution and versatility.
